Double Trouble

If you were here yesterday, you met Stephen "Austin" Hart. Today, we're going to meet his future wife. Austin is apprehensive about his mail-order bride arriving in town. When the stage door opens, he's in for quite a surprise.

Meet Jenny Evans--or is it Rebekah?

If you've read Mail-Order Mayhem in Seven Brides for Seven Texans, you know that Rebekah and Jenny are twins in looks, but their personalities are very different. One is kind, sweet, and considerate, while the other is prissy, flirty, and self-centered.

When I was a teenager, I babysat a set of twins that were total opposites in looks. One had dark, curly hair and deep blue eyes, while her sister had straight blond hair and lighter blue eyes. They had similar personalities, but they didn't look a speck alike. They did seem to have a special connection that you hear so much about.

Sean McDonough - age 2 yrs.
My youngest son, Sean, was born seven years after our third son, and I remember praying he/she would be twins so he/she would have a playmate. It was probably a good thing God didn't bless us with twins, now that I look back on things, although Sean was a sweet, pleasant child.

Did you ever wish you'd have twins? Did you ever know twins who changed classes and pretended to be the other?

Don't forget to get a copy of the word search from yesterday's post, fill it out, and let me know you've completed it to be entered in Friday's drawing for a copy of the Texas Boardinghouse Brides series.

  1. As a girl, I dreamed of having twins when I grew up--a boy and a girl. I even had their names picked out. I'm so glad I didn't get my wish. Raising our strong-willed only child was challenge enough for me. Love that our gal is an accomplished, independent young woman now, but, boy howdy, did she ever test my parenting skills when she was young! =)

    1. Looking back, I"m glad God didn't bless me with twins, too. My youngest was a sweet, compliant child, but two of his three older brothers were quite challenging.

  2. We have an adorable set of twins at our church, brother and sister. It has been so fun seeing their personalities develop. I can't believe they are three years old already!

    1. That would be fun. Are they turning out to be similar or opposites?

    2. Opposite! Sophia is chatty and in charge, and Miguel is laid back and quiet. :)

  3. I always wished I was a twin. I am the middle child of six. Exactly 7 years from the oldest and youngest. Each group at the end are within 3 years of each other, so I was too youbg fir the older ones, and too old for the younger ones. Now most of us are very close! My children are spend out, also. My son wanted the youngest to be twins, so he could have a boy and Dad could have another girl. He didn't get his boy or twins!

    1. I bet things were hectic growing up in a family of six. I just have one sister, and we made quite the racket at times--usually yelling at one another.

  4. Your son was an adorable toddler!
I have cousins that are identical twins. They were the flower girls in my wedding when they were 3 years old. They were very different in personality. One was quiet, liked to be inside, and very easy going. The other was a tomboy, always outside running with her older brothers getting into things and being loud. She actually grew bigger than her sister. I went to high school with a set of twin boys that no one could tell apart. They switched places with each other in class often. They even switched with each other on dates once. The girlfriends were not happy!

    1. I imagine that was a lot of fun having twins in the wedding. That's crazy that those boys swapped places on a date. You'd think the girls would have noticed. I need to write a book with twins that do that. Could be a lot of fun. :)

  6. I seriously did want twins, but luckily didn't get them. Our youngest, a son, was 7 years younger than our girls and one of him was enough to keep up with. Our girls are only 15 months apart. Once the youngest was out of the infant stage, it was a lot like having twins. They were about the same size and great as partners in crime.
